Does it feel like you are getting a degree in surrender? These first few days of fasting can be some of the hardest. Not only are you surrendering your time and you heart, but also surrendering to the process of detoxing your body. It can be down right hard at times, but in the middle of the difficult the grace of God steps in.
This grace was most evident during our weekly Surrender 2014 Fasting Prayer Call. The Almighty took the time to visit with those of us who gathered to share our experiences and left us all better from the encounter. I encourage you to join us this Tuesday night at 10PM EST/9 PM CST on the Prayer Call Line at (712) 432-1500 Access Code: 229351#. Come to listen, praise, and share as you desire. It’s a free call for all who are on this Surrender 2014 fasting journey.
This week my friend Dr. Angie shares her surrender journey. May her transparency and vulnerability to share openly be a blessing to you. ~Dr. Saundra
Getting a Degree in Surrender
Who would have guessed, that over the past few months, I would become an expert in surrender. Well, maybe not an expert, but I have definitely become well educated in the subject. I have been challenged to the core and the only option left is to give in-surrender. So, here’s my challenge, maybe you can relate.
Each week I have had to surrender everything to my Heavenly Father. My practice, my family and even my health. You see, I am currently doing some challenging treatments for cancer; and, every time I go in for my IV’s, I have to surrender once again. This is not what I wanted, this is not what I ordered, but it’s the path God has chosen for me at this moment.
It’s crazy, but once I fully get out of the way, surrender it all to Him, there is this peace that happens. Things seem to go smoothly and my life becomes richer. I am starting to stay in this surrendered place and feeling this peace of God overtake my body more and more. It’s almost to the point now, that I can tell when “Angie” has taken the reigns back from God. When “Angie” has the reigns, there’s anxiety, fear and sometimes physical symptoms with manifest. When I have the reigns, I feel like running for the hills and hiding everything. Does that sound familiar to you?
In Matthew 10:39, it says, “If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it.” I love this verse. It reminds me that God’s plans are always better than I can even comprehend. Even when times are hard, look for God’s hand in it. Some people call it the “silver lining.” So this week, I pray you can surrender control on a few things in your life. I bet, if you do, you will find more ease in your situation.
Trust that something bigger than you has you in the palm of His hand. I can tell you it’s hard at first, but it gets easier and easier.
Six Ways to Surrender:
- Start in the morning with a prayer. Simple: God, I give you this day. Here’s a prayer one of my pastor’s recently gave me:
Lord, I offer You this day,
In the things I do and say,
That you will fill me as I pray
And I will follow Your way
And I will follow You today
2. Be more patient with those around you.
3. Surrender again throughout your day.
4. Journal your thoughts to surrender.
5. Love the obstacle in your life, until it MELTS away!
6. Keep moving forward, even when it’s like walking through mud! God’s peace will come!!
I never realized how much control I had over my life until I was thrown into a NO CONTROL zone. Where surrender is difficult but necessary. And after so many months of continually trying to take control, I have finally surrendered. God is in the driver’s seat and I am in the backseat. I still have moments when I want to grab the wheel or stomp the breaks. But, God patiently brings me back to this place, the place of surrender where His perfect peace heals my heart and mind. It is so much easier!
What has God been showing you about the process of surrendering it all to Him?
